Break Barriers...Open Doors.

The next meeting of the Governing Body will be held on Tuesday, 1st October 2013 at 6pm at Cheshire Homes at  341, Sector 21A , Chandigarh. One of the important agenda point for discussion is celebration of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, on 1st December 2013.

This UN Day falls on Tuesday, 3rd December 2013, but we at Cheshire Homes would be observing this day on Sunday, 1st December 2013.

This year's theme is
“Break barriers, open doors: for an inclusive society for all”

By 3 December 2013, the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, we will have the outcome document of the HLMDD, which would provide an blueprint for action and ideal platform to launch global efforts to help realize the full and equal participation of persons with disabilities in society and shape the future of development for all!

More than 1 billion people or 15% of the world population are living with disabilities - the world’s largest and most disadvantaged group - most of which, are in developing countries!

United Nations' (UN) International Day of Persons with Disabilities is annually held on December 3 to focus on issues that affect people with disabilities worldwide.

The International Day of Persons with Disabilities is coordinated by United Nations Enable, which works to support and promote the rights and dignity of persons with disabilities. The symbol of Enable is the blue UN symbol and the word "enable". The UN symbol consists of an azimuthal equidistant projection of the globe centered on the North Pole surrounded by olive branches. The word "enable" is written entirely in lower case letters. The letter "e" is red and the other letters are blue.
